About The Tribe
The Kiowas lived in the Great Plains near what is today Kansas and Oklahoma. The Kiowa were nomads. They took their tepees and traveled with their band to search for food. When Kiowa were not starving they would not eat dogs, wolves, coyotes, wild birds or fish. In the late 1700s and early 1800s, many laws forced children to go to boarding schools. Some of the parents of the children going to boarding school because they thought their children would forget about their culture.
