About The Tribe
The Comanche are a Native American tribe located in the Great Plains. Sometimes they are called Lords of the Plains. They are nomadic which means that they move around a lot. Horses are very important to them and were brought by the Spanish. The Comanche follow the bison across the plains and use every part of the bison. By the 1800’s, there were 12,000 Comanche people. To a neighboring tribe, the word Comanche means enemy. Interestingly, Comanche boys do not wear clothes until about age 10! Today some Comanche live on reservations and some are mixed into American life.
