About The Tribe
The Coahuiltecans lived in South Texas. Food could be scarce for them because of droughts. They were known to eat rotten wood and rotten dirt. The Coahuiltecans also ate spiders, worms, eggs, lizards, and snakes. They used prickly pears for jam. When they made juice, they squeezed fruit and then poured it into a pit. The Coahuiltecans wore very little clothing. The men wore cloth that went below their knees. Thy used animal skins to make cloaks and blankets. They wore tattoos to mark their band. Since the Coahuiltecans had no horses, they had to walk on foot if they wanted to travel. They would carry all their belongings on their backs. They used moveable shelters for their homes because they moved around a lot. They placed reed mats and animal hides over bent willow saplings. Fires were built in every hut and were used to make them warm. These huts were built in a thicket and trenches were dug around the camp. One of their weapons was called the rabbit stick. It was thrown like a boomerang at rabbits and other small animals. The main weapon for the Coahuiltecans was the bow and arrow. The bow was usually made out out of mosquito root and the string was made out of deer sinew. They dressed in rabbit or coyote skin if it was cold. The arrows were decorated with feathers and flint.
