About The Tribe
Our tribe is named the Blackfoot. The Blackfoot consist of four tribes. The Northern Peigan, Kainai, Blackfoot, and Southern Peigan. They live in the Northern Great Plains. They experienced different climates during the year. They lived in the Great Plains because they depended on buffalo for life. They used buffalo for shelter, food, medicine, and clothes.
Hunting
The Blackfeet use spears to throw at moving animals. They eat a lot of buffalo meat. If the Blackfeet do not hunt buffalo they probably could not survive on earth. They are not farmers. they are nomads. Nomad means they move from place to place. They hunted elk, deer, moose, and mountain sheep those animals are all very very important to the blackfeet.
In the 1730’s they started using horses it made hunting much easier for the Blackfeet. They also used bow and arrows to hunt.
Shelter
The Blackfoot tribe slept in teepees for shelter. Their village was called Big Sky Country. They used buffalo fur a lot for their shelter. They used 4 long poles to make the cone shaped frame. They used buffalo hides as the cover they needed about 15 hides to go all around then they sewed them all together. They painted decorative designs on the cover. They painted patterns, circles, and triangles. Wooden pegs were used to fastened covers closed and the bottom of the teepee. The Blackfeet slept on beds made out of buffalo fur robes. They used fire pits to heat their teepees during winter. The women were supposed to take up and down the Teepees.

The blackfeet had a very long name for themselves it was The Niitsitapi it meant “real people.”
Their language was part of a different family the language was Algonquian Family.
The black feet’s name probably came from THE BOTTOM THERE SHOES!!!
